HISTORICALLY, above-ground interment in a stately mausoleum has been considered the exclusive option of the wealthy and famous. With today's rising costs it may seem that such an alternative is beyond the reach of all but a privileged few. This is not true. The community mausoleums at Woodlawn offer individuals and family groups of all faiths a wide array of facilities at reasonable prices. The price of the crypt also includes permanent maintenance. The Woodlawn Cemetery invested in the community mausoleum concept more than 30 years ago. Since that time, many New York families have selected our community mausoleums. The Woodlawn Cemetery now has eight mausoleums to serve the families that chose this option.
The eight mausoleums include the Chapel Mausoleums, Van Cortlandt, North, South, Brookside, Knollwood, Lotus and the Garden Conservatory. All of these buildings offer families several options, including individual, companion and family crypts. A majority of the spaces are in protected areas, away from elements, allowing for comfortable visitation in all seasons. The crypts are inscribed for permanence and can be personalized by choosing from an array of cast bronze accessories, including vases for floral tributes, spiritual and military service emblems. The newest community mausoleum to be built at Woodlawn, The Garden Conservatory, offers your family every fine memorial option, with superior attention to detail. Skilled architects have created village-like environment and private family areas that depart from the large mausoleum structures that may be found elsewhere. Skylights bathe every area in natural light enhance year-round visitation. There are courtyards, private courts covered with trellises, even exclusive family naming opportunities. A number of exquisite, prominent single-family private mausoleums are available. Impressive columns are flanked by arbors and planting areas growing greenery and numerous trees and shrubs. Every location is a peaceful spot for meditation and reflection. The building is a composite of two splendid stones; Silver White Granite and San Francisco Verde Green Granite. The North corner tower with adjacent family crypts are surrounded by glass, providing a lantern into the night. The Garden Conservatory is just another addition to the facilities Woodlawn has to provide burial options to the greater New York community.
